Model: GPHM53631  |  Type: R-32 packaged heat pump  |  Nominal size: 3 ton

Goodman GPHM5 is a higher-efficiency R-32 packaged heat pump (all-in-one outdoor unit) built for ducted cooling and heating with horizontal or downflow airflow configurations. It’s designed for applications where the outdoor unit connects directly to supply/return ductwork. Sizing should be done with a proper load calculation (tonnage is capacity, not a guaranteed square-foot number).

Cooling details

Provides 36,000 BTU/h of total cooling with 26,640 BTU/h of sensible capacity. EER2 (11.4) is measured at a single test condition, while SEER2 (15.2) represents seasonal efficiency over a range of conditions—use both to compare models and estimate operating costs.

Heating details

Heat pump output is listed at two common rating points: 35,400 BTU/h at 47°F and 22,000 BTU/h at 17°F. The COP values (47°F: 3.60, 17°F: 2.26) indicate heating efficiency at those points. In colder climates, many installations add a field-installed electric heat kit for auxiliary/emergency heat.

Airflow, comfort & filtration

  • Multi-speed ECM indoor blower helps match airflow to duct design and comfort needs.
  • Convertible airflow supports horizontal or downflow duct connections (field-configurable).
  • Metering device: evaporator TXV; condenser TXV.
  • Filtration approach depends on your installation (internal/external filter racks are available as accessories).

Construction & durability

  • Condenser coil: copper tube/aluminum fin. Evaporator coil: all-aluminum (2–4 ton models).
  • Liquid-line filter drier included.
  • Compressor: high-efficiency two-stage scroll (2.5–5 ton).
  • Heavy-gauge galvanized-steel cabinet with two-tone Architectural Gray powder-paint finish and foil-faced internal insulation (reinforced with fiberglass scrim).
  • Fully insulated air-handling compartment with access panels and louvered condenser coil protection.
  • Meets cabinet air leakage requirements when tested to ASHRAE Standard 193; when properly anchored, meets 2023 Florida Building Code unit integrity requirements for hurricane-type winds (anchor bracket kits available).

Installation planning (verify before ordering)

  • Chassis size: Large
  • Unit dimensions: W 47 in × D 51 in × Height A 40 in (Height B 42¾ in)
  • Duct openings: Supply 16 x 18 (W×H) / Return 16 x 18 (W×H)
  • Condensate drain: 3/4" NPT female connection.
  • Downflow installs: manufacturer notes require horizontal duct covers plus either a downflow conversion kit or a downflow economizer.
  • Electrical planning: use MCA/MOP values for breaker and wire sizing, and always verify against the unit’s nameplate (S&R plate). Use time-delay fuses or HACR-type breakers as required.

Common add-ons (sold separately)

  • Electric heat kit (field-installed) for auxiliary/emergency heat
  • Economizer options (fresh air / ventilation) — varies by chassis
  • Roof curb and concentric kit options — varies by chassis
  • Filter rack options (internal downflow or external horizontal)

What’s included: packaged heat pump unit only (factory charged). Thermostat/controls, ductwork, curb, economizer, and electric heat kit (if needed) are typically purchased separately and installed by a licensed HVAC professional.
