This Goodman 2-Ton 19.2 SEER2 / 9.2 HSPF2 Central Heat Pump Split System pairs the GZV9S-series inverter-driven variable-speed heat pump condenser (Model: GZV9SA241C) with a multi-positional variable-speed air handler (Model: AHVE48CP1300). This AHRI-certified matched system (Certificate #: 216699889) uses R-32 refrigerant and is ENERGY STAR® certified. The variable-speed compressor and ECM blower motor deliver precise temperature control, enhanced dehumidification, and quiet operation across a wide ambient range.

Note: If you would like to review the manufacturer Product Specifications, Warranty, Brochure, etc., for this system, please refer to the 'Resources (System Manuals and Warranty)' Tab above on this page.

System Components

  • GZV9SA241C – Goodman GZV9S-Series 2-Ton Variable-Speed Inverter-Driven R-32 Heat Pump Condenser, Side Discharge, up to 21.0 SEER2 / 10.0 HSPF2, 208-230V/1Ph/60Hz, EEV Expansion Device
  • AHVE48CP1300 – Goodman AHVE-Series 2-Ton Multi-Positional Variable-Speed ECM Air Handler with Internal EEV, Communicating, 208/230V/1Ph/60Hz, 21" Depth Cabinet

Pro-Installer Tip: Air Handler & Heat Pump Commissioning

The Technical Friction: The AHVE air handler’s 21” depth is designed for attic and closet applications, but the combined height of 58” requires careful vertical clearance planning. The communicating connection between the GZV9S and AHVE requires only two low-voltage wires, but if the thermostat wiring is run through legacy 18/8 cable alongside the communicating pair, EMI crosstalk can trigger nuisance fault codes on the air handler board.

The Long-Term Prevention: Run the communicating wire pair in a separate conduit or maintain at least 12” separation from any high-voltage wiring. After commissioning, cycle through all operating modes (cooling, heating, defrost, fan-only) and verify the CFM indicator reads within expected range for the tonnage setting. Document these readings — this baseline catches blower degradation or filter restriction callbacks months later.

The Expert Validation: Verify total external static pressure with a digital manometer (e.g., Dwyer Series 475 Mark III) at rated CFM. The AHVE air handler’s variable-speed ECM will compensate for duct restrictions, but if total static exceeds 0.8” w.c., the motor draws excessive wattage and shortens its service life. Adjust ductwork or air handler speed settings accordingly.

The Professional Standard: R-32 is an A2L (mildly flammable) refrigerant requiring EPA Section 608 certification. Confirm the factory-installed R-32 sensor in the AHVE air handler is operational and not obstructed. All installations must comply with UL 60335-2-40 and local mechanical codes for A2L refrigerant charge limits.

Key Benefits

  • High-Efficiency Rated Performance: This matched system achieves up to 19.2 SEER2 and 9.2 HSPF2, verified under AHRI Certificate #216699889. The variable-speed inverter compressor modulates capacity to match the load, reducing energy waste compared to fixed-speed systems.
  • Low-GWP R-32 Refrigerant: R-32 has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 675 — approximately 68% lower than R-410A (GWP 2,088). This aligns with EPA AIM Act phase-down requirements and positions the system for long-term refrigerant availability.
  • Quiet Operation: The GZV9S outdoor unit operates at 71 dBA in normal cooling mode, with a selectable Quiet Mode that can reduce sound output to as low as 45 dBA — suitable for installations near bedrooms or property lines with noise ordinance constraints.
  • All-Aluminum Evaporator Coil: The indoor coil uses an all-aluminum construction that eliminates galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals, a known failure point in copper-aluminum coils exposed to high-humidity or coastal environments.
  • 21” Cabinet Depth: Both the indoor coil and blower/air handler sections use a 21” depth cabinet, which fits through standard 22” attic access openings without requiring disassembly — reducing installation time and potential for field damage.
