This Goodman 3-Ton Central Heat Pump Split System pairs the GZV9SA361C variable-speed, inverter-driven R-32 heat pump condenser with the AHVE60DP0300 Multi-Positional Variable-Speed Air Handler with internal EEV. This AHRI-certified combination (Certificate #216699912) achieves up to 19.0 SEER2 / 9.2 HSPF2 / 11.7 EER2, qualifying for ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient 2025 and Cold Climate Heat Pump (ccHP) designation. The system operates on low-GWP R-32 refrigerant (GWP: 675), supporting the EPA AIM Act phasedown requirements and potentially qualifying for federal energy efficiency tax credits under IRS Section 25C.

Note: If you would like to review the manufacturer Product Specifications, Warranty, Brochure, etc., for this system, please refer to the 'Resources (System Manuals and Warranty)' Tab above on this page.

System Components

  • GZV9SA361C (GZV9SA361C*) — 3-Ton Variable-Speed, Inverter-Driven, Side-Discharge R-32 Heat Pump Condenser with dual variable-speed swing compressors, EEV metering, quiet-mode capability (as low as 45 dBA), and hot gas base pan defrost down to 5°F. 208-230V / 1 Phase / 60 Hz.
  • AHVE60DP0300 — Multi-Positional Variable-Speed Air Handler, Multi-Positional configuration, 24½"W x 21"D, 1 HP VS-ECM blower motor. Variable-speed ECM blower, SmartFrame™ cabinet, internal EEV, and 21" depth for attic access. 115V operational voltage.

⚙ Pro-Installer Tip

[Technical Friction] The AHVE air handler's 21" depth is designed for attic and closet access, but vertical installations with 24½" cabinet width require verifying the return-air plenum clearance before setting the unit. The internal EEV eliminates a separate TXV/piston at the coil, but the communicating wire connection between the GZV9S condenser and AHVE air handler must be run as a dedicated 2-wire (not shared with other low-voltage circuits) for proper inverter communication.

[Long-Term Prevention] After startup, run the system for at least 15 minutes in cooling mode and verify subcooling at 11±1°F. The AHVE's variable-speed ECM blower will auto-adjust airflow, but confirm static pressure across the air handler stays below 0.5" w.c. to prevent blower ramp-up noise and premature motor wear. A clogged filter in the first year is the #1 cause of "noisy system" callbacks on variable-speed air handlers.

[Expert Validation] Use an R-32-compatible digital manifold and verify the AHVE's built-in R-32 sensor is operational during commissioning (LED status on control board). A calibrated flow hood at each supply register confirms the system is delivering rated CFM—critical for achieving the rated 19.0 SEER2.

[Professional Standard] EPA Section 608 certification is required for R-32 handling. The AHVE cabinet meets ASHRAE 193 air leakage standards (<2.0% at 1.0" w.c.), but field-installed ductwork connections must be sealed with UL 181-rated mastic to maintain system efficiency and comply with IECC 2021 duct leakage requirements.

Key Performance Benefits

  • Cold Climate Heat Pump Certification: The GZV9S operates down to -20°F ambient, providing reliable heat pump heating in extreme cold without solely relying on auxiliary heat, reducing energy consumption in northern climates.
  • Variable-Speed Inverter Efficiency: The swing compressor modulates capacity from approximately 25% to 100% (and boost mode), maintaining tighter temperature control (±0.5°F) and reducing on/off cycling compared to single-stage or two-stage systems.
  • Quiet Operation: The GZV9S features three selectable quiet-mode levels with sound output as low as 45 dBA in quiet mode—comparable to a quiet library. Standard cooling mode measures approximately 59 dBA @ 5 ft (1 reflective surface).
  • Low-GWP R-32 Refrigerant: R-32 has a Global Warming Potential of 675, approximately 68% lower than R-410A (GWP 2,088). This reduces the system's direct environmental impact while also improving thermodynamic efficiency due to R-32's higher volumetric capacity.
  • Integrated Air Handler with EEV: The AHVE air handler includes a factory-installed electronic expansion valve optimized for R-32, variable-speed ECM blower for dehumidification control, and SmartFrame™ cabinet with <2% air leakage per ASHRAE 193.
  • 21" Cabinet Depth: The AHVE's 21" depth fits through standard attic access openings without requiring cabinet disassembly, reducing installation time and material cost in retrofit applications.
