This Goodman 3-Ton Central Heat Pump Split System with Evaporator Coil & Modular Blower pairs the GZV9SA361C variable-speed, inverter-driven R-32 heat pump condenser with the CHPEA4830C3 Cased Horizontal A-Coil and MBVK16CP1X00 multi-positional modular blower. This AHRI-certified combination (Certificate #216699917) achieves up to 18.2 SEER2 / 9.0 HSPF2 / 11.0 EER2, qualifying for ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient 2025 and Cold Climate Heat Pump (ccHP) designation. The system operates on low-GWP R-32 refrigerant (GWP: 675), supporting the EPA AIM Act phasedown requirements and potentially qualifying for federal energy efficiency tax credits under IRS Section 25C.

Note: If you would like to review the manufacturer Product Specifications, Warranty, Brochure, etc., for this system, please refer to the 'Resources (System Manuals and Warranty)' Tab above on this page.

System Components

  • GZV9SA361C (GZV9SA361C*) — 3-Ton Variable-Speed, Inverter-Driven, Side-Discharge R-32 Heat Pump Condenser with dual variable-speed swing compressors, EEV metering, quiet-mode capability (as low as 45 dBA), and hot gas base pan defrost down to 5°F. 208-230V / 1 Phase / 60 Hz.
  • CHPEA4830C3 — Cased Horizontal A-Coil, Horizontal configuration, 30"W x 21"D x 21"H cabinet. All-aluminum 7mm tube coil with factory-installed R-32 refrigerant sensor.
  • MBVK16CP1X00 — Multi-Positional Modular Blower, ¾ HP variable-speed ECM, 21"W x 21"D x 30"H, 208/230V.

⚙ Pro-Installer Tip

[Technical Friction] The coil-plus-modular-blower configuration requires careful alignment between the CHPEA4830C3 coil and MBVK16CP1X00 blower section. The joint between the two cabinets must be sealed with the factory gasket (part #0154D20003S) to prevent condensate migration and air leakage. Verify the blower orientation matches the intended airflow direction before securing—the MBVK is multi-positional, but the coil drain must face the correct direction for condensate management.

[Long-Term Prevention] After assembly, perform a static pressure test across the coil/blower combination. Target below 0.5" w.c. total external static to ensure the ¾ HP ECM motor operates within its design envelope. Excessive static from undersized ductwork will cause the motor to ramp to maximum speed, increasing noise and reducing the blower's service life. Install a condensate management kit (MBK0002) if the system is in a high-humidity environment.

[Expert Validation] Use a digital manometer with static pressure probes at the supply and return plenums. Verify subcooling at the outdoor unit service valve reads 11±1°F with an R-32-compatible digital manifold. The EEV in the GZV9S condenser auto-controls superheat—erratic readings indicate charge or airflow issues.

[Professional Standard] EPA Section 608 certification is required for R-32. The coil's factory-installed R-32 sensor and the GZV9S condenser's onboard refrigerant detection comply with UL 60335-2-40 safety requirements for A2L refrigerants. Verify local code adoption of A2L-rated equipment before installation.

Key Performance Benefits

  • Cold Climate Heat Pump Certification: The GZV9S operates down to -20°F ambient, providing reliable heat pump heating in extreme cold without solely relying on auxiliary heat, reducing energy consumption in northern climates.
  • Variable-Speed Inverter Efficiency: The swing compressor modulates capacity from approximately 25% to 100% (and boost mode), maintaining tighter temperature control (±0.5°F) and reducing on/off cycling compared to single-stage or two-stage systems.
  • Quiet Operation: The GZV9S features three selectable quiet-mode levels with sound output as low as 45 dBA in quiet mode—comparable to a quiet library. Standard cooling mode measures approximately 59 dBA @ 5 ft (1 reflective surface).
  • Low-GWP R-32 Refrigerant: R-32 has a Global Warming Potential of 675, approximately 68% lower than R-410A (GWP 2,088). This reduces the system's direct environmental impact while also improving thermodynamic efficiency due to R-32's higher volumetric capacity.
  • Modular Configuration Flexibility: The separate coil and blower design allows field-configurable orientation (upflow, downflow, horizontal) to match the installation site, with standard 21" depth across all components for consistent ductwork sizing.
  • EEV Metering with Auto-Controlled Superheat: The electronic expansion valve in the GZV9S condenser provides precise refrigerant metering across the full modulation range, maintaining rated efficiency from minimum to maximum compressor speed.
