This is a 30 lb cylinder of virgin R-22 (HCFC-22) refrigerant, sold factory sealed for servicing existing residential, commercial, and chiller systems that already run on R-22. It is not legal for use in new equipment.
Note: If you would like to review the manufacturer Product Specifications, Warranty, Brochure, etc., for this system, please refer to the "Resources (System Manuals and Warranty)" Tab above on this page.
R-22 has a long service history in air conditioning and refrigeration, and a lot of equipment still in the field was built to run on it. OnTap Cold packages 100% virgin R-22 in 30 lb steel cylinders, factory sealed, meeting or exceeding ARI-700 purity standards. This page covers the refrigerant itself, what you need on hand to purchase and handle it legally, and what it will and won't work with.
What's in the Box
- One 30 lb steel cylinder of virgin R-22 refrigerant, factory sealed
- Total shipped weight (cylinder plus packaging): 35 lbs
Hoses, gauges, recovery equipment, and adapters are NOT included. This listing is refrigerant and cylinder only.
Professional Requirements & Limitations
EPA Section 608 certification is required by federal law to purchase this refrigerant. OnTap Cold sells R-22 for servicing existing equipment only. R-22 cannot be installed in new systems under current environmental regulations, and its use contributes to ozone depletion, so handle recovery and any venting according to EPA rules. R-22 is not an A2L refrigerant, so mildly-flammable-refrigerant handling protocols do not apply here - but confirm your recovery machine, gauges, and hoses are rated for HCFC-22 service before connecting.
Pro-Installer Tip
Before you charge a legacy R-22 system that's been open to atmosphere, pull it down to a deep vacuum rather than relying on a quick evacuation. Trapped moisture and non-condensables left in an old line set will drive up head pressure and accelerate compressor wear over time. Pull the system below 500 microns and hold it there with a calibrated micron gauge, using a valve core removal tool so the cores don't restrict flow during evacuation. This follows standard deep-vacuum practice and keeps the system in line with EPA Section 608 servicing requirements for refrigerant handling.

Compatibility & Fitment
Compatible with residential and commercial air conditioning systems, large centrifugal chillers, and refrigeration systems originally designed and charged for R-22. Suitable for topping off or fully recharging existing R-22 equipment during service and maintenance.
NOT compatible with new equipment installations - R-22 is prohibited in new systems under current environmental regulations. NOT a drop-in replacement for R-410A, R-32, R-454B, or other A2L/HFC systems. Hoses, manifold gauges, recovery equipment, and fitting adapters are NOT included with this cylinder.
FAQ
Is EPA certification required to buy this?
Yes. EPA Section 608 certification is required by federal law to purchase R-22 refrigerant.
Is this tool rated for A2L refrigerants like R-32 and R-454B?
This is a refrigerant product, not a tool, and R-22 is not an A2L refrigerant. It is not compatible with A2L systems and should not be used in equipment designed for R-32 or R-454B.
Can R-22 be used in new air conditioning systems?
No. R-22 is no longer permitted in new equipment due to environmental regulations. It remains available for servicing existing systems.
What is included with this cylinder?
One 30 lb steel cylinder of virgin, factory sealed R-22 refrigerant. Hoses, gauges, and recovery equipment are not included.
Compliance & Warranty
EPA Section 608 certification is required to purchase this refrigerant, per federal law. Buyers are responsible for compliant handling, recovery, and disposal of R-22 in accordance with applicable environmental regulations. This cylinder is sold new and factory sealed.
