Model number decoding (so you know exactly what you're buying)
- G = Goodman brand
- P = Packaged unit (all-in-one outdoor cabinet)
- H = Heat pump
- H = Horizontal discharge configuration
- 3 = 13.4 SEER2 series
- 48 = 4 Ton
- 31 = 208/230V, 1-Phase, 60Hz
- Refrigerant = R-32 (A2L)
Performance details
- Cooling: 45,000 BTU/h total, 34,650 BTU/h sensible; 13.4 SEER2; 10.6 EER2.
- Heating: 42,500 BTU/h @ 47°F (COP 3.66); 22,000 BTU/h @ 17°F (COP 2.2); 6.7 HSPF2.
- Staging: Single-stage. (Two-stage models can run at a lower stage in mild conditions for steadier comfort.)
Air delivery & comfort
- Indoor blower: Multi-speed ECM with 5 speeds; 1500 nominal CFM; blower wheel 10 x 8"; motor 3/4 HP.
- Duct connections: Supply 14" × 14" • Return 14" × 24" (check transitions/curb requirements).
Refrigerant, coils, and serviceability
- Refrigerant: R-32, factory charge 141 oz (8.81 lb / 4.00 kg).
- Coils: All-aluminum evaporator coil; copper tube/aluminum fin condenser coil.
- Drain connection: 3/4" NPT.
Metering devices: Indoor/evaporator metering is Piston. Outdoor/condenser metering is Piston. A TXV (thermostatic expansion valve) is a modulating metering device; a piston (fixed orifice) is a fixed metering device—your installer/service technician will want to know this for diagnostics and part selection.
Electrical requirements (verify the nameplate before installation)
- Power: 208-230 V, 1-phase, 60 Hz.
- MCA / breaker sizing: Minimum circuit ampacity 31.04 A; max overcurrent protection 50 A (time-delay fuses or HACR-type breakers per spec sheet).
Physical dimensions, clearances & sound
- Cabinet size: 66" W × 34" D × 35" H (overall B height); cabinet height A = 32.5" (chassis: Medium).
- Operating/shipping weight: 415 lb operating / 425 lb shipping.
- Sound rating: 80 dB.
- Clearances: Per the spec-sheet diagram: maintain 36" clearance on the air-inlet/service sides and 10" to an adjacent wall on the opposite side; follow local code and installation instructions.

Common questions (answered)
- Is this an all-in-one unit or split system? This is a packaged heat pump: the compressor, outdoor coil, indoor coil, and blower are all in one cabinet. It connects to your ductwork through the listed supply/return openings.
- What does “horizontal discharge” mean? The condenser fan discharges air out the side of the unit (not straight up), which can matter for curb/roof installations, clearances, and sound/airflow planning.
- What electrical service is required? 208-230 V, 1-phase, 60 Hz. Use a dedicated circuit sized to at least the MCA (31.04 A) with max overcurrent protection of 50 A. Always follow the unit nameplate and local code.
- Does it include electric auxiliary heat? The heat pump section is factory-installed; electric heat is optional via a field-installed heat kit (sold separately).
- What refrigerant does it use? R-32. R-32 is commonly classified as A2L (lower toxicity, mildly flammable), so installation and service must follow current safety codes and manufacturer instructions.
- Will it fit my existing curb/duct? Compare the cabinet dimensions (66" W × 34" D × 35" H (overall B height); cabinet height A = 32.5") and duct openings (Supply 14" × 14" • Return 14" × 24") to your curb/transition. Accessories like roof curbs and square-to-round adapters are available (see list below).
